Doug the dog

About

Hey there! I’m Doug, the Golden Retriever with a flair for the dramatic and a nose for good food. My human, Brian, thinks he’s a dog too — seriously, he loves car rides, snuggling up next to me on my couch for Netflix marathons, and even has a great collection of odd socks (Almost as many as me).

Let Me Introduce Brian, My Bestie

Brian’s my human, my best buddy, and the reason we’re both obsessed with homemade dog food. But let’s be real, this whole adventure started because of my food allergies.

It all began with the itching. Oh, the itching. I scratched so much that Brian thought I was part kangaroo. Then came the ear infections, the upset stomach, and the occasional “I-ate-something-I-shouldn’t-have” face. After countless trips to the vet, expensive prescription diets, and more trial-and-error than a squirrel trying to crack a walnut, Brian finally figured out the solution: DIY dog food recipes.

Why Brian Started This Website

When Brian first started his quest to make homemade meals for me, he was completely clueless. I mean, the guy spent hours perched upright on my furniture Googling things like “Can dogs eat quinoa?” and “How much pumpkin is too much pumpkin?” (Spoiler: I love pumpkin, but it doesn’t like to hang around with me much —very messy!).

As Brian experimented with dog food recipes and learned more about pet nutrition, something amazing happened: I stopped itching. My coat got shinier, my energy levels improved. I even stopped stealing socks (okay, maybe I still steal a few here and there—old habits die hard).

Brian realized that if I could benefit from homemade food, other pets could too. So, he decided to share everything he’s learned—the good, the bad, and the occasionally hilarious—to help other pet parents navigate the world of DIY dog food recipes, cat food recipes, and more.

Why Listen to Brian Anyway?

Brian’s not a veterinarian or a pet nutritionist—he’s just a human who thinks he’s a dog and has been through the wringer with my food allergies and picky eating habits. His goal is to make DIY dog food recipes accessible, affordable, and fun for everyone. Plus, I give him constant feedback (usually in the form of tail wags, head shakes, or dramatic sighs when he gets it wrong).
